Pei Wei

Pei Wei is a cheaper version of P.F. Chang's with a variety of gluten free items.  It is an Asian fusion restaurant with dishes from around the continent.  It is my favorite place to get quick takeout.  Pei Wei's GF menu features edamame, salad, Vietnamese rolls, and spicy or sweet and sour chicken or shrimp.  You always have a choice of white or brown rice.  I love their sweet and sour chicken, so I order it pretty much every time.  They customize the dish to make it GF by not breading the chicken.  They also carry packets of GF tamari.  I have included pictures of sweet and sour chicken as well as the takeout box that indicates that the meal is gluten free along with the GF soy sauce packets.

There are five locations in San Antonio.

El Mirasol

El Mirasol is one of the best Mexican restaurants in town.  Most Mexican dishes are gluten free, and many of the meals here are served on corn tortillas.  There is a large selection of dishes with several featuring seafood.  Their sister restaurant, SoLuna has a similar menu, but is located in Alamo Heights.  Both restaurants have beautiful patio seating available as well as nice margaritas and a roasted salsa.
I have uploaded a picture of tacos a la parilla, chicken flautas topped with guacamole served with rice and refried beans.  There is another picture of grilled chicken tacos on corn tortillas with beans and rice.  We also ordered a mango margarita and a chispa.

They are located in the Churchill Place shopping center in North Central San Antonio.

Pam's Patio Kitchen

Pam's Patio Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio.  This neighborhood gem is located at the corner of Wurzbach and Lockhill Selma in the North Central part of town.  If you dine in, the owner of the restaurant will go over which items on the menu are gluten free, and they will offer you chips and salsa instead of bread.  Most of the items are gluten free, as denoted on the takeout menu.  You have your choice of fresh soups, salads, tacos, nachos, chalupas, enchiladas, pad thai, curry, steaks, or GF pizza.  I love the Mexican food as well as the GF pizza.  This is one of the best restaurants in town, especially if you must eat gluten free.  I took a couple pictures of the grilled chicken tacos I ordered tonight that came with Mexican rice, grilled zucchini, and three very spicy salsas.  I have also uploaded a picture of the lamb kabobs that were served with a twice baked potato and grilled zucchini.  Most recently, I had lunch there, and I ordered their famous chalupa that is only available for lunch, and their cream of zucchini soup.  The delectable GF pizza is below.

They are located in The Elms shopping center in North Central San Antonio.

Jason's Deli

Jason's Deli is a chain that offers sandwiches, soups, baked potatoes, and a salad bar.  They have a GF menu and they even offer GF bread for their sandwiches.  I usually order a baked potato, but I recently tried a BLT on GF bread.  The GF bread looks and tastes like your average loaf of bread.  It was soft and springy white bread.  It is always nice to be able to order a sandwich on bread.  Their portion sizes are huge, both for sandwiches and baked potatoes.  They also have a soft serve machine for chocolate or vanilla ice cream.  Here's a picture of a light "plain jane" potato and the California Club sandwich on GF bread.

Red Robin

Red Robin is a kid-friendly burger chain that offers either a lettuce wrapped burger or a burger on a GF bun.  I would go with the GF bun because it is one of the best I have ever encountered.  It is elastic and the crust is flaky like a normal hamburger bun.  The fries are also GF, and they come in a bottomless basket.  For other GF selections, check out their allergen menu online.  The milkshakes at this burger place are also terrific.  It would be hard to finish a burger, fries, and a milkshake, though.  In case the kid-friendly descriptor scares you off, they offer plenty of delicious mixed tropical drinks.  I included a picture of the burger on a GF bun and steak fries, as well as a half-eaten burger so you can get an idea about the delightful texture of the GF bun.  I have also included a updated version of their menu showing the GF bun or lettuce wrapped burger options, and their turkey club burger.

Red Robin has four locations in San Antonio: The Rim, Northwest Side, Stone Oak, and Northeast Side.

EZ's

EZ's is a casual dining restaurant that has everything from burgers to pizza to rotisserie chicken plates.  The best thing about EZ's is their burgers because they can be served on a GF bun from Canyon Bakehouse.  In case you aren't familiar with Canyon Bakehouse, they produce the best GF buns.  They recently updated their menu to include GF listings, which I have uploaded.  My personal favorite at EZ's is the bean burger topped with guacamole.  This burger comes with refried black beans, chopped onions, Fritos, cheddar cheese, and salsa.  They also have a selection of fries, of which sweet potato tots are my favorite.  They recently started serving breakfast and have several gluten free items like breakfast bowls or a breakfast sandwich served on a GF bun.  If you save room for dessert, they also serve shakes made with Blue Bell ice cream.  Here are some pics of the new GF menu, the bean burger on a GF bun, a guacamole cheddar burger on a GF bun, the mozzarella mushroom chicken sandwich on a GF bun, and sweet potato tots.

BJ's

BJ's is a casual restaurant with two locations in San Antonio.  They have a large menu with a variety of drinks, including Redbridge beer.  Their menu has two noteworthy gluten free options.  These include a pizza with a variety of toppings available as well as a delectable dessert called the Pizookie.  The pizza is large enough for two meals, has delicious cheese, and the crust is thin to medium with crisp edges.  The gluten free chocolate chip Pizookie is one of the best gluten free desserts around.  They serve a warm GF chocolate chip cookie bar in a skillet with two scoops of vanilla ice cream.  It also serves two, but I would enjoy eating the whole thing on my own.  I took a picture of the gluten free section of the menu as well as the pizza I ordered.

BJ's has two locations: one in The Rim and the other on the Northwest Side.

Northwest Side: Address - 5447 W. Loop 1604 North, San Antonio, TX 78253

The Little Aussie Bakery & Cafe

The Little Aussie Bakery & Cafe is the only dedicated gluten free bakery and restaurant in San Antonio.  It is family owned and operated.  The menu offers loaves of bread, rolls, cupcakes, cookies, and a rotating display of gourmet cakes.  The restaurant has many selections, and they provide rolls with garlic butter when you dine in.  My favorite item on their menu is their pizza.  The pizza has a thick crust, the sauce is delicious, the cheese is delicious, and the toppings are great. This is the best gluten free pizza in town.  On pizza nights (Fridays and Saturdays) they provide free wine or GF beer (Bard's Tale).
The bread is springy and holds its shape.  The desserts are tasty, and the cakes usually have several layers and are elegantly decorated.  Do not expect a super sweet American dessert here.  The frostings are more creamy than sweet.  Many of their dessert items are also dairy free.
I have uploaded pictures of the pepperoni pizza, complimentary beverages, tres leches cake, and tiramisu.

The bakery is located in Alamo Heights by Brackenridge Park in a rustic building.  They now sell some of their items at HEB Alon Market and HEB at Blanco and 1604.
