Joe's Crab Shack

Joe's Crab Shack is a seafood chain with a GF menu.  I haven't eaten any of their food yet, but they had an extensive bar menu.  I have uploaded a picture of the cocktail in the take-home jar.

Five Guys

Five Guys is a burger chain that makes everything fresh to order.  Their entire menu is GF except for the buns.  Their fries are GF because they are 100% fresh cut potatoes and they are the only thing that ever goes in the fryer.  The fries are outstanding, and a regular order will feed at least two people.  The little burger has one patty and the regular has two.  They even have hot dogs that are GF and casein free.  One great surprise was when I placed my order online, I could check a box to indicate no bun.  Five Guys is a great option for a fast burger or hot dog where you know you can get a GF meal.  Here are a couple tips: even if you place your order online, they will not make your fries until you show up to ensure they are fresh, and if you order without a bun everything will be packaged separately for you to assemble.  If you have a peanut allergy, you probably shouldn't eat here since they have peanuts available and use peanut oil for frying.

Yardhouse

Yardhouse is a bar with a mix of food options.  They have an extensive beer selection, one of which is GF.  They also have several cider options and wonderful cocktails.  They have a limited GF menu.  They have several options on there, but they mainly include salads.  The fries and chips are off limits, as are most of the sauces that the meals would normally have.  I prefer going there for a nice drink, especially during happy hour.  I've uploaded a picture of the black orchid martini.

Chick-fil-A

Chick-fil-A is one of the best fast food restaurants.  They have several healthy menu options as well as many GF options.  I have eaten my fair share of Chargrilled chicken salads and grilled chicken filet sandwiches (minus the bun).  Their latest menu addition is grilled nuggets (on the kid's menu).  You can dip them in one of the many GF sauces (my favorite is Polynesian).  Their waffle fries are delicious and are a GF option.  As far as fast food milkshakes go, Chick-fil-A makes some of the best.  If you are ever in a hurry and need a quick meal, you can feel confident that this is a great option for GF food.  I have uploaded a picture of the grilled chicken nuggets and the waffle fries.

Dickey's Barbecue Pit

Dickey's Barbecue Pit is one of my favorite BBQ joints.  This chain started in Texas in 1941.  They post all their ingredients online for food intolerance information, which makes them a great GF BBQ choice.  I love their brisket, which is GF and always moist.  The giant stuffed baker with brisket is pictured.  The brisket, the potato, and the BBQ sauce are GF.  The free ice cream is also GF.

Z'Tejas

Z'Tejas is a Tex-Mex restaurant that offers a GF menu.  The good news is that they offer a GF menu.  The bad news is their tortilla chips are not on the GF menu because they are fried with other items that may cause cross contamination.  They used to be on the GF menu because they are 100% corn chips, but were removed by the GIG.  However, they have delicious guacamole and dips.  They do have some of the best (and strongest) margaritas in town, which are also GF.  One of my favorite menu items is the wild mushroom enchiladas.  I have included a picture of the Tejas Trio (guacamole, salsa, and chile con queso), wild mushroom enchiladas, and the frozen Paradise and watermelon margaritas.  I recommend going at happy hour and sitting on their patio.

Bobby J's

Bobby J's is an old-fashioned burger place in Helotes.  They have a number of burgers on their menu, and they were very accommodating when I ordered my burger without a bun.  They also have some salads and milkshakes on the menu, but I stuck with a burger and fries.  It wasn't my favorite burger in town, but it was pretty good.  It doesn't help that I am now partial to burger places that offer GF buns.  I have included a picture of fresh cut fries and the guacamole burger with no bun.

Chipotle

Chipotle is a great, fast, healthy Mexican restaurant.  Everything on their menu is GF except for the flour tortillas, and most of their food is organic.  My favorite menu item is the burrito bowl, which is everything that would go into a burrito minus the flour tortilla.  I'm also fond of the tacos on corn tortillas (fried or soft).  If you need fast, healthy food, this is a great place to go for a GF meal.  I have uploaded a picture of the burrito bowl with chicken, rice, black beans, cheese, and sour cream.

The Cove

The Cove is an eclectic restaurant that was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.  They have indoor and outdoor seating, live music, and a car wash.  However, the draw is definitely the food, most of which is local and organic.  They have a lot of GF options, all of which are labeled clearly.  The best option is a burger on a GF bun.  They have many options, but my favorite is the Texas Burger, which comes topped with refried beans, grilled onions, avocado, and salsa.  The fries are also fresh and delicious.  They have a GF sweet potato dessert that I have been wanting to try, but I always forget to save room.  Their bar has a variety of cider options as well as GF beer and some wines.  If you are GF and in San Antonio, you must go to The Cove for a great meal.  I have uploaded pictures of the Texas Burger on a GF bun, the fries, and a new cider I tried there.

Sonic

Sonic is a favorite fast food place among native Texans.  They have an allergen menu online that shows which foods have gluten.  The good news about Sonic is that most of their menu items are gluten free.  You can order a burger or a hot dog without the bun, and most of their beverages or ice cream treats are GF.  Their fries and tots contain no gluten ingredients, but you should always check about the fryers and cross contamination at a fast food restaurant.  I recommend their slushes, blended floats, and cherry limeade.  I have uploaded pictures of the new sweet potato tater tots, American hot dog, blended root beer float, and M&M blast.

P.F. Chang's

P.F. Chang's is an upscale chain of Chinese restaurants with some other Asian influences found on the menu.  I love them because they have an extensive GF menu.  Their GF options include classics like egg drop soup, fried rice, lettuce wraps, lemon chicken, moo goo gai pan, mongolian beef, pepper steak, and shrimp with lobster sauce.  They have some interesting new dishes on their menu as well.  They also offer a flourless chocolate dome for dessert.  When dining in, I recommend trying one of their great cocktails at the bar.  I normally go for their ginger chicken with broccoli or lemon chicken, but I ordered the egg drop soup and chicken fried rice for lunch today.  These are shown below, along with ginger chicken with broccoli and caramel mango chicken.
